Welsh Conservative MS calls for Welsh Government statement on Conwy wildfire

THE WELSH CONSERVATIVES have called for an emergency statement in the Senedd following the major wildfire in the Conwy Mountain and Sychnant Pass area in the Bangor Conwy Môn constituency.

Janet Finch-Saunders MS has written to the Llywydd requesting that the Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning makes an urgent statement to update the public on the Welsh Government’s response to the incident.

This morning, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, told the BBC 36 homes in Capelulo have been evacuated and advised residents living nearby to keep windows and doors shut.  200 acres of land has already been affected with a fire front of about 1.6km at the height of the incident.

Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:“My thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible fire and I pay tribute to the fire and rescue service and other emergency services personnel who have been working tirelessly in exceptionally challenging conditions to keep the public safe.

“Given the severity of this fire, it would be appropriate for the Welsh Government to make an emergency statement to update the public about the response, the support being provided to those affected and what further action will be taken to protect the public and those on the frontline.”
