Marie Curie is calling on people in Holyhead to give up a few hours of their time this summer to help raise vital funds for end-of-life care through its annual Paint It Yellow campaign at Morrisons.
THE CHARITY is looking for volunteers to collect donations at Morrisons Holyhead between Wednesday, July 30, and Saturday, August 2, with every pound raised helping to fund expert nursing care and support for people living with terminal illnesses.
Marie Curie says almost one in three people do not receive the end-of-life care and support they need. The charity hopes local volunteers will help ensure more families can access its nursing services, hospice care and free support line.
A typical two-hour fundraising shift raises around £85, enough to fund almost four hours of expert nursing care or five calls to Marie Curie’s free Support Line, which provides practical and emotional advice on issues including symptom management, day-to-day care, financial support and bereavement.
Marie Curie provides care for people living with a wide range of terminal illnesses, including dementia, heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and advanced cancer.

“Getting involved in the Paint It Yellow fundraiser and collecting at your local Morrisons is a brilliant and fun way to give back to our local community here in Holyhead whilst also helping Marie Curie provide a vital service to those in the final chapter of their lives.
“Volunteering is super simple, and our team will be on hand to support you throughout to make sure you have everything you need and ensure you have the best experience possible.
“By giving just a couple of hours to collect this summer, you will be helping Marie Curie continue to provide expert end-of-life care and support for people with any illness they are likely to die from, and support for their families.”
Alongside the collections, Morrisons stores will host a range of Paint It Yellow activities, including raffles, tombolas, in-store trails and fundraising challenges involving store colleagues. Morrisons teams across North Wales will also take part in a fundraising relay throughout August.
David Scott, Corporate Affairs Director at Morrisons, said last year’s campaign had raised more than £1 million in a single month and praised the efforts of staff, customers and Community Champions.
He added: “This August, our dedicated Community Champions have lots of exciting fundraising activities planned in store and we’d love to see our customers, old and new, get involved.
“With the support of our colleagues and the people of North Wales we’re helping Marie Curie to continue to provide people with expert end-of-life care and support at home, in the community and in the charity’s hospices, whatever the illness, wherever they are.”
Marie Curie became Morrisons’ national charity partner in November 2024. Since then, customers and colleagues have raised almost £7 million to support the charity’s work.
Between August 3 and August 23, shoppers will also be able to support the campaign by purchasing selected products in yellow packaging as part of Morrisons’ “Every Pack Gives Back” initiative, with participating brands donating a percentage of each sale to Marie Curie.
