SERVICES that help people to maintain their independence and to remain living in their own homes for longer have been described as being among the best that Wales can offer following a glowing report by Care Inspectorate Wales.
Inspectors visited Bridgend County Borough Council between May and June to assess the Domiciliary Care Service and awarded it their highest rating of ‘Excellent’ for its leadership and management arrangements, the quality of its care and support, and for its levels of well-being.
Working with people across supported living settings, extra care facilities and within their own homes, the service helps them to live independently while receiving essential support with tasks that might include personal care, medication or daily household chores.
The inspectors said that the service produced ‘outstanding’ outcomes for local people and helped them to live independently while continuing to make their own choices about their lives. Staff were found to build strong, trusting relationships while providing highly personalised support, and feedback from people receiving services demonstrated how they felt respected, valued and listened to.
Care is specifically tailored to meet each person’s needs and goals, and there is a strong focus upon helping people to maintain or regain their independence. Staff also work closely with health and social care professionals to deliver the best outcomes, and have effective systems in place for managing medicines, planning care and monitoring health.
The quality of the staff who provide the Domiciliary Care Service was also highlighted as being very high, with strong safeguarding and safety arrangements in place to ensure that people feel safe and secure at all times.
Deputy Leader Jane Gebbie said: “Receiving the highest possible rating from Care Inspectorate Wales, with no areas identified for improvement, is an outstanding achievement and one that everyone involved should be immensely proud of.
“This recognition reflects the professionalism, compassion and unwavering commitment of our Domiciliary Care staff, who make a real difference every single day.
“They build trusted relationships with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, helping them to live independently, maintain their dignity and remain in the place they most want to be – within their own homes. Their dedication is at the heart of this success.
“I would also like to recognise the leadership and management teams whose vision, support and commitment to continuous improvement have helped create a service that is now recognised as being among the very best in Wales.
“This achievement has also been made possible through the continued investment and support of Bridgend County Borough Council and its elected members, who remain committed to protecting and strengthening adult social care services despite the significant challenges facing the sector.
“To receive an ‘Excellent’ rating across every area assessed is a tremendous endorsement of the quality of care being delivered on behalf of the people of Bridgend County Borough.
“On behalf of the council, I extend my sincere thanks and heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved for this remarkable achievement.”
