Residents are set to move into the energy-efficient homes at Maes Gwenallt next month
THIRTY-THREE new affordable homes are nearing completion in Aberystwyth as part of a £7.5 million housing development.
Residents are expected to move into the new Barcud development at Maes Gwenallt, Penparcau, next month.
The scheme, built on the former Piercefield Lane site, includes a mixture of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses, flats and bungalows for affordable rent.
Barcud said the development would provide much-needed housing for local residents and give more people the opportunity to establish long-term roots within the community.
The housing group has worked with principal contractor S.J. Roberts Ltd on the project over the past two years.
The development has received £5.6 million through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant programme.
All 33 properties have been built using modern timber-frame construction and incorporate a range of low-carbon and energy-saving technology.
The homes include solar photovoltaic panels, air-source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation and underfloor heating, helping them achieve an EPC energy-efficiency rating of A.

A second phase of the Maes Gwenallt development is due to be completed in 2027 and will provide a further 16 homes.
The next phase will also include an active travel path connecting the development to the Ystwyth Trail.
Barcud representatives, contractors, stakeholders, Welsh Government officials and local councillors will attend a special “Croeso” event at the development on Friday, July 31.
The event will provide an opportunity to view the properties and the completed first phase before tenants begin moving in.
