GOODWICK United beat Herbrandston 5-0 away from home for the second week in a row on Saturday (Feb 2), this time to book their place in the quarter finals of the West Wales Cup.
Herbie were keen to avoid a repeat of the previous week’s defeat and they battled well in the first half as the score remained goalless after forty minutes.
However, Herbie’s resistance was broken as Steven Dockerty and Chris O’Sullivan both scored to give Goodwick a 2-0 half time lead.
Jordan Griffiths then scored Goodwick’s third in the second half to all but seal their progress into the last eight.
Herbie still had their chances as Macauley Marshallsay looked to get on the end of a through ball but Goodwick keeper James Gwilt just got out in time to clear the danger.
Scott Reid then shot wide for the hosts as they continued to look for a way back into the cup tie.
However, their hopes of getting back into the game were dealt a blow when Jonathan Bennett received his second yellow card for an off the ball incident.
Goodwick then took over and should have made it four when a cross from the right was sent into the box but, with the goal gaping, substitute Rhys Dalling missed the ball.
It wasn’t long before they did make it four though as Wayne O’Sullivan lofted a free kick into the box and Dalling beat the offside trap to lob the ball over the advancing Herbie keeper Leighton Harding.
They made it five soon after as the ball was played through for Jordan Griffiths and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner for his second goal of the game.
It sealed an excellent win for Goodwick who will now look forward to their quarter final tie.
Before that they will return to league action on Saturday (Feb 9), as they host Saundersfoot. Herbie will look to get back to winning ways as they travel to Clarbeston Road.
