THE NEW Plaid Cymru leader on Carmarthenshire County Council is 42-year-old Cllr Darren Price who represents the Gorslas ward on the authority. He was appointed at a meeting of the 38-strong Plaid group earlier today (Saturday 7 May) to succeed Emlyn Dole, council leader since 2015. Cllr Price will be nominated to lead the council at their AGM later this month.
Married, with two young sons, Darren Price was raised in Gorslas and attended the local primary and secondary schools. He then attended Swansea University and gained a BA and MSc Economics degrees. Darren is currently employed as a senior researcher at the Welsh Parliament, having previously worked within NHS Wales. He’s a school governor, a member of several local organisations and coaches the Drefach U8s football team.
“This is a tremendous but exciting challenge,” Darren Price said after the meeting. “The vision and fantastic work started during Emlyn Dole’s tenure to regenerate the county, at a most difficult time nationally, must be carried to fruition. If my nomination is ratified by the Full Council I will reach out to members, irrespective of political persuasions, so that we can work together for the good of Carmarthenshire.”
