A PLAN to redevelop an abandoned, boarded up former care home site in the centre of Llangefni has come before planners.

The former Plas Penlan elderly care facility, just off the Bron y Craig estate, closed down amid a restructure of services, under a decade ago.

With the development of extra-care housing, which saw the opening of Hafan Cefni, in 2018, Plas Penlan, was among a number of homes deemed no longer required and closed down.

Now, Anglesey County Council’s planning department has received a full application for its own scheme to upgrade the council owned site, to include housing and care services.

It concerns the redevelopment of the site, to provide 10 affordable dwellings and  a care facility, incorporating four bedrooms, and an ancillary care facility on the ground floor,  and two self-contained flats on the first floor together with alterations to the vehicular access and associated works.

The planned development, listed as on Bron Y Felin Road, would also include parking, access, green spaces and landscaping.

The application is listed as being made by the council’s head of housing, through the agents Lovelock Mitchell.

The plans say: “There is a known housing demand within the community council area, and a mix of housing reflects demand from the housing register and a recently completed housing needs survey.

“Currently, the site’s former care home is abandoned and boarded up, presenting a risk of increased antisocial behaviour, specifically inside the structure and within the outdoor areas it conceals from the road. Re-occupying the site would alleviate this risk.”
