Persimmon Homes supports Llangynwyd Primary School through Community Champions scheme
WALES’ largest housebuilder has donated £1,000 to help a Bridgend primary school create an outdoor learning space for local children.
Persimmon Homes West Wales made the donation to Llangynwyd Primary School as part of its Community Champions programme, which sees the company donate £50,000 each year to charities and community organisations across Wales.
The housebuilder marked the contribution alongside school staff and pupils, with other recent recipients of Community Champions funding including Llangynwyd Rangers FC, Coity Chiefs Girls, and Coity Community Council.
Persimmon Homes West Wales, which recently secured its fifth consecutive five-star rating from the Home Builders Federation, currently has an application to build 133 new zero carbon-ready homes on land near the school in Llangynwyd.
Plans for the proposed development also include play areas, active travel improvements, housing association properties, and environmental and ecological enhancements.
Persimmon Homes West Wales Sales Director Sharon Bouhali said: “Persimmon has a strong record of supporting schools across West Wales – as well as organisations in the Bridgend County borough – and we were delighted to once again be doing so through this donation to Llangynwyd Primary School.
“With plans afoot to bring a sustainable new community of zero carbon-ready homes to Llangynwyd, it is imperative that Persimmon supports local public services, especially education, not only as part of our commitment to our customers but to leave a positive and lasting legacy for those in the area where we build.”
Headteacher Kelly Kehoe said the funding would help the school work towards its ambition of delivering a forest school project.
“We are a highly inclusive school that takes great pride in ensuring every child fulfils their potential,” she said.
“Our aim is for pupils to leave us as well-rounded, thoughtful individuals who embody strong values and have high aspirations for their future.
“That’s why this generous donation from Persimmon will be such a help as we pursue our ambition to deliver a forest school for our pupils, so they can have a hands-on education, making use of the beautiful outdoors as they learn.”
