Experienced journalist to host flagship evening programme from Tuesday to Friday
JOURNALIST Alun Thomas will become the main presenter of Post Prynhawn on BBC Radio Cymru from the beginning of February, hosting the programme from Tuesday to Friday between 5pm and 6pm.
He will take on the role alongside Nia Thomas, who will continue to present the programme on Mondays, as part of a refreshed presenting line-up for one of the station’s longest-running and most respected news programmes.
Alun Thomas brings with him a wealth of experience across BBC news and current affairs broadcasting. His career includes presenting roles on O’r Gorllewin from Aberystwyth, Newyddion y Flwyddyn, Dros Ginio, as well as regular appearances across a range of BBC Radio Cymru programmes including Dros Frecwast, Post Prynhawn, Taro’r Post and Post Cyntaf.
Speaking ahead of taking up the role, Alun Thomas said it was a privilege to lead such a historic programme:
“Post Prynhawn has been one of the cornerstones of BBC Radio Cymru for over 45 years, and I’m looking forward to taking the reins with Nia.
“It’s a privilege to follow in the footsteps of presenters such as Dylan Jones, Dewi Llwyd, Gareth Glyn and Dei Tomos, who have all looked after the programme over the years.
“Our aim will be to give listeners a clear round-up of the day’s news from Wales and the world between five and six, so you’re up to date with everything that matters as you finish the working day.”
As part of the changes, Gwenllian Grigg will take over presenting duties on Dros Ginio on Thursday afternoons, leading the discussion programme between 1pm and 2pm.
She said she was looking forward to engaging with listeners on a wide range of topics:
“It’s a real privilege to join the Dros Ginio team and lead the conversation on Thursday afternoons.
“As well as bringing the latest on the day’s stories, it’s a chance to delve into different topics or themes – who knows which direction we’ll go in, but one thing’s certain: it’ll be lively and entertaining in the company of experts from all kinds of fields, with the odd remarkable personal story too.
“More than anything, it will be a pleasure to spend time with BBC Radio Cymru’s Dros Ginio listeners.”
Post Prynhawn will continue to be produced in Bangor and is broadcast live on BBC Radio Cymru from Monday to Friday, 5pm–6pm.
Dros Ginio airs daily between 1pm and 2pm.
Both programmes are also available on BBC Sounds.
