A sombre mood has settled over the seaside village of Aberporth after emergency services were called to the area on Friday morning, where a body was discovered in the waters off the picturesque Ceredigion coast.
Shortly after 10:30am, a coordinated response involving Dyfed-Powys Police, paramedics, the RNLI, and UK Coastguard crews converged on the beach — a much-loved spot for locals and visitors alike. Residents reported the arrival of at least four police vehicles, with officers moving quickly to cordon off part of the coastal path as the operation unfolded.
In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed:
“We received a report that a body had sadly been found in the water off the coast of Aberporth at around 10.30am today. The next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, but it is understood that the family have been notified and are receiving support during this difficult time.
Authorities have confirmed that a formal report will now be prepared for His Majesty’s Coroner for Ceredigion. While police stress there is no suggestion of suspicious circumstances, the news has deeply affected the close-knit coastal community, where the beach and its surrounding paths are a focal point of daily life.
Aberporth, known for its sweeping views over Cardigan Bay and its welcoming atmosphere, is rarely the scene of such sombre events. Friday’s discovery has served as a stark reminder of the power and unpredictability of the sea, even in the most familiar of places.
