Charity cyclists set for 110-mile ride in support of bowel cancer patients.
MEMBERS of Clwb Beicio Cefneithin, working in partnership with the Bobby and Friends Trust, will cycle from Cefneithin to Bristol over two days on June 19 and 20 in aid of Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Colorectal Service.
The challenge will see riders cover more than 110 miles, with all funds raised going towards supporting patients receiving treatment for bowel cancer at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen and Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
Organisers say the money raised will help enhance the care and support available to patients and their families as they navigate a bowel cancer diagnosis.
Robert Bonell, representing Clwb Beicio Cefneithin, said the cause was one that resonated with many people across local communities.
“The work carried out by these units is incredibly important to so many families across our communities,” he said.
“The money raised will help support the fantastic care and support provided to patients facing bowel cancer.
“Every mile ridden is to support the incredible work carried out by these hospital teams every single day.
“For more than 21 years, these charity cycle rides have brought people together to support local causes and make a genuine difference within the community.
“Every donation, sponsorship and message of support helps motivate the team as they prepare to take on this challenge and raise as much money as possible for these vital services.”
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, praised those taking part in the event.
“What a fantastic challenge,” she said. “We wish all those taking part in the cycle a huge good luck and look forward to hearing all about it.
“The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as creating more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, and providing the latest equipment.”
The fundraising ride continues a long-standing tradition of community-led charity cycling events organised by the club, which has supported a range of local causes over the past two decades.
Those wishing to support the cyclists can donate via the group’s JustGiving campaign. Further information about Hywel Dda Health Charities and its work supporting NHS patients and staff is also available online.
