Llandrinio Bridge to close overnight as repair work begins

Llandrinio Bridge will close overnight on Monday to recover the original stone from the riverbed.

As long as the weather and river conditions allow, this first phase to the repair work will begin on the evening of Monday, (April 20) for four consecutive nights. The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 8pm to 6am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.

Matt Perry, Chief Officer Place, explained: “Water levels have been monitored over recent months, and we are pleased that they have now lowered enough for us to progress with the plans to repair Llandrinio Bridge.

“Such a historic structure deserves to be restored properly, using traditional techniques to preserve the bridge’s historic character.

“However, timings for this part of the repair will depend again on the weather as low temperatures will affect the curing of the lime mortar.

“Once the stone has been recovered, we will make appropriate plans for the final phase of repairs. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to restore this historic structure safely.”
