A COMMUNITY support service in Aberystwyth has closed with immediate effect, raising concerns over the loss of a key lifeline for people needing food, meals, advice and mental health signposting.
The Well announced the closure in a public statement, saying the decision had been taken due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
The organisation said the move had “not been an easy decision” and acknowledged it may be disappointing and concerning for people in the community who relied on it.

In its statement, The Well said: “At this stage, we do not have a confirmed date for reopening, but we want to reassure everyone that this is not The Well closing permanently.”
It added that the break would allow time to “rest, participate in additional training, and reflect and pray about how The Well operates”.
The closure is likely to cause concern because The Well was offering more than just a drop-in space. Information shared alongside the announcement listed support agencies for advice, energy, water, housing, family support, drugs and alcohol issues and mental health help. It also highlighted places where people could find food and meals in the town.
Among the services listed were Jubilee Storehouse, Porthi Aber and Penparcau Hub for food provision, while meals were available through venues including The Well at the Castle Rooms, St Paul’s, St Anne’s Church Hall, Capel y Morfa Vestry and the Salvation Army.
Support contacts also included Citizens Advice, Severn Wye, Dŵr Cymru, Care Society, The Wallich, Parenting and Family Support, DDAS/Barod and NHS Wales 111 option two for mental health help.
The Well said anyone needing support or signposting to other organisations should check the pinned information on its Facebook page.
While the organisation has stressed that the closure is not permanent, the immediate loss of such a well-used community resource will be worrying for many in Aberystwyth, particularly those already struggling with food insecurity, housing pressures or poor mental health.
