Fire service celebrates International Women’s Day with special event in Llanelli

Colleagues gather to recognise achievements and promote health and wellbeing

MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service marked International Women’s Day with a special event bringing together women from across the service to celebrate achievements and highlight key issues around health and wellbeing.

The event was held at the Diplomat Hotel on March 9 and welcomed colleagues from across the organisation.

Opening the event, Chief Fire Officer Craig Flannery spoke about the importance of recognising and supporting the contribution women make throughout the service.

Attendees took part in a range of sessions during the day, including a presentation from the service’s fitness team focusing on health, fitness and time management.

Firefighter Rebecca Rowe also shared her experiences of trekking 1,200 kilometres across Antarctica and spoke about her efforts to encourage more young women to consider careers within the fire service.

The event also featured keynote speaker Felicity Rowe, who delivered an inspiring talk about rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic while unknowingly battling cancer, and the resilience that helped her move forward.

The day concluded with a workshop led by international mindset coach Mick Stott and Victoria Embley, focusing on the importance of mindset and positive attitude.

Organisers said the event provided an opportunity for colleagues to come together to celebrate and reflect on the achievements of women working across Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service while strengthening support networks within the organisation.
