NEW RESEARCH from multi-store gift card, One4all Gift Cards, reveals that more than seven in ten (71%) Welsh respondents say it’s these familiar faces and festive rituals that make Christmas Day magical, far more than the food (21%) or the presents (8%).
As for a particular highlight of the big day, it’s the food that takes centre stage. Almost half (46%) say Christmas dinner, while another 29% say it’s the traditions that come after, from games to festive TV, and a quarter (25%) say it’s the laughter and chaos.
It seems the unsung heroes of Christmas are clear too, with 81% saying the cook or host takes the crown for ensuring everything runs smoothly, while more than one in ten (13%) say it’s the entertainer who keeps everyone laughing.
Across Wales, families are keeping their Christmases traditional. More than half (56%) say their celebrations haven’t changed in years, and a heartwarming 81% say they’ll spend the day together under one roof.
From pulling crackers to watching festive films, Welsh families are all about the small but meaningful moments that make the season so special – and for some, these are considered non-negotiable elements.
A traditional Christmas dinner (88%) is considered a must-have part of a Welsh Christmas, followed by watching Christmas movies (48%) and playing games (44%), while a 6% even admit that a nap after lunch is part of the fun.
Lou Hickey, EMEA Marketing Director at One4all Gift Cards, commented: “The real magic of Christmas in Wales comes from the people.
“It’s the hosts who pull it all together, the jokers who keep everyone laughing, and even the nappers who bring a bit of calm after the chaos. Every personality adds something special to the day.
“What our research really shows is that it’s those perfectly imperfect moments, the laughter, the little traditions and just being together, that make Christmas feel like Christmas.”
