Five people have been arrested and a murder investigation launched after a 17-year-old boy died in Abertridwr, near Caerphilly.
Gwent Police were called to an address on Lower Francis Street on Thursday, 5 February, following reports that the teenager had suffered a serious injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers arrived at around 5.45pm.
A police statement confirmed: “A 17-year-old from Abertridwr was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 26-year-old from London, a 24-year-old from Abertridwr, and an 18-year-old from Cardiff. Two women – a 28-year-old from Hereford and a 24-year-old from Senghenydd – were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All five remain in police custody while enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Jitka Tomkova-Griffiths, the senior investigating officer, said: “We understand that incidents of this nature are deeply concerning, and residents may notice an increased police presence in the area as we carry out further enquiries.
“It is vital that people avoid speculating about the identities of those involved, as this could hinder our investigation. Anyone with information is urged to speak to our officers or contact us in the usual way.”
