SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam, has been appointed the Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Education, Families and the Constitution in the Welsh Parliament, as well as the Welsh Conservatives’ Policy Director.
Welsh Conservative Leader Darren Millar MS has unveiled his new appointments, the first since the Senedd elections on the May 7.
Mr Rowlands, a father of three young children, said he was honoured to be taking on the new roles.
He recently criticised Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet who voted to once again hold a consultation over the controversial plans to close St David’s Catholic Primary School in Mold, St Anthony’s in Saltney, St Mary’s in Flint and St Richard Gwyn High School in Flint and build a £55 million superschool for pupils aged 3-18 on the site of St Richard Gwyn.
He said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to be the Welsh Conservative spokesperson on education, families and the constitution.
“As most people know I am extremely keen to make sure that people in my constituency get a fair deal from their local authority and I will continue to stand with parents, governors and teachers to fight these unwelcome plans for a new superschool.
“I am also very concerned over the proposed closure of both Saltney Ferry and Saltney Wood Memorial Primary School to amalgamate both schools for a new 3-11 community primary school.
“It is very sad that despite overwhelming support against the proposals the voices of parents and objectors are not being taken into account.”
Welsh Conservative Leader, Darren Millar MS said his new team will hold Wales’ new Plaid Cymru Government to account and work tirelessly for the people of Wales, speaking up on the issues that matter.
He added: “We will be a constructive opposition party in the Senedd, seeking to work with others, where possible, to effect positive change across the nation.
“That will include continuing to make the case for lower taxes, an end to wasteful spending, and offering solutions to fix our public services.”
