Warning as Storm Goretti brings snow, rain and powerful winds to Wales

Storm Goretti is moving into Wales today, bringing a hazardous combination of heavy snow, strong winds and driving rain as weather conditions rapidly deteriorate.

Forecasters warn the storm could cause widespread disruption, with treacherous travel conditions, power cuts and localised flooding all possible as the system tracks across the country.

An amber weather warning for snow comes into force across large parts of Wales on Thursday. The Met Office says Storm Goretti could deliver significant snowfall, creating dangerous conditions and a potential risk to life from Thursday night into Friday. It is the fourth weather warning issued for Wales within the space of two days.

Alongside the amber alert, three yellow warnings are also in place for snow, rain and wind across parts of the country. Meanwhile, a rare red warning for wind has been issued for south-west England.

Snow falling across south Wales

Snow has already begun to fall across parts of south Wales. Images from the Rhigos mountain show snow starting to settle, creating increasingly hazardous driving conditions.

A Met Office yellow rain warning remains in force, with snow warnings due to take effect later this evening as Storm Goretti tightens its grip on the region.
