Construction firm secures new headquarters as part of expansion plans

A successful Welsh construction business is set to safeguard dozens of jobs and create new employment opportunities after purchasing a new headquarters unit in Anglesey.

A CONSTRUCTION and civil engineering company has unveiled plans to expand its operations after purchasing a business park unit from the Welsh Government.

OBR Construction has acquired a unit at Bryn Cefni Business Park in Llangefni, where it intends to establish a new headquarters to support its future growth ambitions. The move will safeguard 85 existing jobs and create 10 new roles, including five apprenticeships.

The company works across a wide range of sectors, including local authority projects, commercial and industrial developments, as well as the nuclear and waste industries. OBR Construction currently reports an annual turnover of more than £20 million.

As part of its long-term strategy, the business aims to grow its position as a regional contractor and become a key supplier within the nuclear decommissioning sector.

Welcoming the sale, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning Rebecca Evans said the investment demonstrated the Welsh Government’s commitment to supporting business growth across Wales.

She said: “This Welsh Government is creating the conditions to help businesses grow as we work towards a greener, fairer and more prosperous economy for all parts of Wales.

“The sale of this unit will support the growth of a successful company, safeguarding existing jobs and creating new ones, with a new headquarters from which it can expand further.”

Rhys Parry Jones, Director at OBR Construction, said the acquisition marked an important milestone for the business.

He said: “We are delighted to finalise the acquisition of the business unit at Llangefni, which will assist our expansion ambitions. This represents a significant step in strengthening the future of our organisation and supporting our continued growth and development plans.”

He added that the move would secure the company’s existing workforce and create up to 10 new roles over the next 18 months.

“The new premises will also put us in a strong position to take advantage of the growing number of opportunities in Anglesey and North Wales,” he said.

Mr Parry Jones explained that relocating within Bryn Cefni Business Park, close to the company’s current base, would allow for a smooth transition while enabling the firm to upgrade facilities in line with its Net Zero by 2050 commitments.

“We are extremely excited about this next chapter and look forward to being fully established in our new premises by the end of 2026,” he added.
