SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging people in his region not to get caught out by scammers.
Mr Rowlands is backing North Wales Police who are warning residents not to fall for a winter fuel payment scam.
He said: “With the UK Labour Government scrapping the winter fuel payment for many pensioners, it is sad but true that some people might well be taken in by a fraudulent text.
“Unfortunately there are unscrupulous people out there and North Wales Police is now warning residents to be especially aware of text message scams.
“These days more than ever we all have to be on the lookout for despicable scammers who prey on the vulnerable and the elderly.

“Please take care not to be scammed and remember that if you do receive an offer which appears to be too good to be true then it probably is.”
Recently, North Wales Police have been made aware of a scam about winter fuel payments.
North Wales Police, Cyber Crime Officer, Dewi Owen is now reminding people that Winter Fuel Payments are made automatically and you do not need to do anything.
He said that if you receive a text about the payment then it is a scam and urged people to also pass on this warning to family, friends and neighbours so they do not get caught out.
