A FORMER public toilet in Llanddulas could be turned into a shop – if planning permission is granted next week – despite concerns about anti-social behaviour from the community council.
Llanddulas Youth and Community Centre has applied to Conwy’s planning department, hoping to secure planning permission for the public convenience on Wern Road to be transformed into a retail unit.
The plan is to transform the toilets into a community shop, selling handmade crafts and hot drinks, such as tea and coffee, with five car parking spaces, including one electric vehicle charging space.
The plans would see the demolition of the existing entrance, the floor space increased, and anti-climb fencing erected around the external space to the south of the building.
But the application, submitted by Wendy Williams, has been met with some opposition from the community council.
A statement to Conwy from Llanddulas and Rhyd y Foel Community Council said: “Two councillors expressed concerns around anti-social behaviour or inappropriate behaviour in the area post build, but the majority of the council supported the application.”
Despite the concerns, the nearest dwelling to the site is immediately east of the proposed parking area, with other neighbouring homes separated from the development by the embankment supporting the North Wales main line.
Native wildflower plants could be used to add soft landscaping in planters at the shop, and the building would include external wall insulation and solar panels.
According to the report, the council’s planning officers are minded to grant permission.
The plans will likely be debated at a Conwy planning committee on Wednesday at the council’s Coed Pella HQ.
