Llanrwst’s former library and police station buildings set for demolition

The former Library and Police Station at Plas yn Dre on Station Road, Llanrwst

LLANRWST’S former library and police station buildings are set to be demolished.

Conwy County Council has applied to its own planning department, seeking permission to demolish the former library and police station at Plas yn Dre on Station Road, Llanrwst.

Both buildings are vacant after the library and police station moved to the nearby Glasdir building, also at Plas y Dre, in recent years.

If granted planning permission, the buildings will be stripped and demolished by both machine and hand and brought to “existing ground level”.

Whilst it’s not known what will replace the council-owned site, Llanrwst Town Council has given its support for the buildings being knocked down.

In a letter to Conwy, Llanrwst Town Council’s planning committee said “The committee indicated its support to the planning application on condition that the Town Council are informed of Conwy County Borough Council’s intentions for the land usage in the future.

“Also, any development must be in the interest of the residents of Llanrwst, and in the meantime, after demolition of the buildings, the site to be landscaped to ensure visual amenity.”

The demolition plans will likely be discussed at a future Conwy planning committee meeting at the Council’s Coed Pella HQ in Colwyn Bay.
