Afternoon Tea on Platform 2 launches at Llangollen Railway Station

VISITORS to Llangollen can now enjoy a brand-new Afternoon Tea experience in what many consider to be one of the most picturesque locations in the whole town. Launching this season at Llangollen Railway, “Afternoon Tea on Platform 2” invites guests to relax aboard a beautifully restored heritage carriage overlooking the stunning River Dee, the historic bridge, the famous Corn Mill, and the spectacular ruins of Castell Dinas Brân.

Running every Thursday and Friday from 1pm until 3pm, the new experience offers all the charm and elegance of the railway’s popular travelling Afternoon Tea services — but at a more affordable price.

And with views like these, why would you want to move?

Served aboard a static heritage carriage on Platform 2, guests can enjoy a freshly prepared traditional Afternoon Tea while soaking in the atmosphere of one of the most scenic spots in North Wales. The experience is ideal for friends, families, celebrations, or simply an indulgent afternoon beside the river.

Mandy Towers is the Station Master at Llangollen Station and always assists with the popular afternoon teas

The Afternoon Tea includes:

  • A selection of freshly made sandwiches
  • Freshly baked fruit scones with jam and clotted cream
  • An assortment of freshly made cakes and sweet treats
  • Tea or coffee served at your table
  • Optional sparkling wine upgrade

Prices have been designed to make the experience accessible for all:

  • Adults: £25 per person
  • Children: £10 per child

Additional treats can also be added:

  • Extra scone — £2
  • Extra cakes — £5
  • Extra sandwiches — £5

While the carriage itself remains stationary, visitors can still combine the experience with a journey aboard one of the railway’s famous services through the Dee Valley.

Jordan Edge, Catering Manager at Llangollen Railway, said: “Our travelling Afternoon Tea trains have become incredibly popular, but we wanted to create something equally special at a lower price point.

“Platform 2 offers what we believe is the very best view in Llangollen, so it felt like the perfect place to launch this new experience.

“You can sit back, relax and enjoy freshly made food while looking out across the River Dee, the bridge, the Corn Mill and Castell Dinas Brân. Honestly, with scenery like that, why would you want to move?”

Booking is recommended via Llangollen Railway’s Afternoon Tea on Platform 2 page.
