A NEW dog exercise area could opened in Rhyl, providing a facility for pet owners with mobility difficulties.
Harley Walker of Sit. Stay. Play Ltd has applied to Denbighshire County Council, seeking planning permission to convert Unit A5 at Cefndy Road Employment Park in Rhyl into a dog park.
If permission is granted, the small independent business “will provide a secure indoor dog exercise and enrichment space”, which will be available for private hire.
According to the application, Sit. Stay. Play is already an operational business but wants to relocate due to “the rising costs at the current location” while improving accessibility.
The new unit has been vacant for over a year, having been previously used for “light industrial” use.
The new park has been “specifically designed to support dog owners who may face barriers”, listing potential customers as wheelchair users of all ages, those experiencing mobility difficulties, and dog owners with chronic health conditions.
The application states: “The venue provides a safe, accessible, and entirely enclosed environment where customers can exercise and spend quality time with their dogs in comfort and privacy.
“The facility also enables users to socialise with friends and carers in a controlled setting that is protected from weather conditions and uneven outdoor terrain.”
The application concluded: “As no operational industrial processes are proposed, the change of use is expected to have minimal impact on neighbouring occupiers. The proposal is low intensity in nature, with visits operating on a private booking basis rather than large public gatherings.”
The plans will likely be discussed at a future Denbighshire County Council planning committee meeting.
