Sam Rowlands MS backs funding to support local projects

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging eligible groups to apply for funding to benefit their communities in Denbighshire.

Funding totalling £101,064.42 is available to help improve open spaces and play areas across the county.

Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of encouraging people to get involved in helping to benefit their local communities said: “I would urge any eligible groups or organisations to make sure they apply for this funding which has been made available for many towns across Denbighshire including substantial amounts in both Rhyl and Prestatyn.

“There are also smaller pots for places like Llangollen, Llanynys and Llanarmon yn Iâl.

“This sort of investment is very welcome and helps to make sure that local communities have  open spaces which enhance local communities.”

The funding comes from Commuted Sums, which are payments made by developers when it is not possible to provide outdoor open space as part of a new development. These funds are set aside to enhance parks, play areas and other open spaces, usually within the same town or community where the development took place.

A range of organisations can apply for funding, including:

  • City, town and community councils
  • Community and voluntary groups
  • Charities
  • Public sector organisations
  • Amateur sports clubs
  • Denbighshire County Council

The funding opened on Monday (January 19) and will close for applications on April 20, 2026. Further information and application forms is available online at Denbighshire County Council’s Commuted Sums page.
