Sam Rowlands MS joins hundreds of young people at Scout camp in Flintshire

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, recently attended an action packed event at Park in the Past, heritage site in Hope.

Mr Rowlands, who believes all young children should have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor education, rolled up his sleeves to join around 600 young people aged 4-24 from across North-East Wales together for Camp Clwyd.

He said: “I was delighted to be invited to join Scouts from across North-East Wales on a very special weekend of fun and activities.

“Everybody knows how important I feel it is for our children to have the benefits of outdoor education and it was great to see so many young people enjoying the experience.

“As many will remember, I did try to get my Outdoor Education Bill passed through the Welsh Parliament which would have made residential Outdoor Education part of Wales’ curriculum, however, this was turned down.

“That is why it is so important that organisations like Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies are there so that young people benefit from taking part in all sorts of activities including being taught survival tips.

“It was also great to catch up with some familiar faces as earlier this year I spent some time with Scouts at Cox Wood Campsite in Rossett, where I was encouraged to join in with some of the activities.”

From to July 11 to July 13, Clwyd Scouts brought together around 600 young people aged 4-24 from across North-East Wales for Camp Clwyd, an action packed event at Park in The Past, in Hope, Flintshire.

The entire event was run by volunteers who organised many different sporting and fun activities throughout the weekend.

Park in Past is an exciting and innovative heritage and conservation project aiming to create a totally unique heritage attraction and vital community resource. It is managed by a Community Interest Company which has been set up to restore and manage Fagl Lane Quarry, in North East Wales

Set in an ancient Welsh landscape, the park comprises 120 acres of outstanding natural beauty offering woodlands and wetlands, a magnificent 35-acre lake and the gorgeous River Alyn, as well as wonderful walks and spacious fields.
