Sam Rowlands MS wants to see more rail funding in North Wales

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, says more needs to be invested in rail services in his region.

Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure and a harsh critic of railway services in North Wales was commenting after the UK Labour Government announced plans for a railway station at the Deeside Industrial Estate as part of their latest Spending Review for rail projects in Wales.

He said: “While I welcome any investment in rail in North Wales I feel that much more needs to be done to improve services in my region.

“Earlier this month in the Senedd, I called on the Welsh Government to reinvest the £1 billion previously allocated for electrification of the North Wales main line.

“The Conservative Party committed to £1 billion of investment for the electrification of the North Wales main line but when Labour came into power, they decided to scrap that straight away, which was so unfair for the people of North Wales.

“While I am pleased to see any funding to improve our rail network it is still very disappointing to hear that once again North Wales, which is the gateway into my region from England, is not being given the investment it needs.

“With North-East Wales, in particular, attracting lots of interest from companies over the border excellent links whether it be road or rail are vital.

“Rail funding has been cut by more than half under Labour compared to what was delivered by the previous UK Conservative Government and the people of North Wales deserve better.”
