Sam Rowlands MS supports call for caravan owners to secure unoccupied vans

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging static caravan owners to make sure their unoccupied vans are secure.

Mr Rowlands is backing a timely reminder from North Wales Police who are reminding owners that over the closed season there can often be an increase in theft from unoccupied static caravans.

He said: “I am happy to add my voice to calls from NWP to make sure your caravan is kept secure during the winter months and remove valuable items.

“I am sure most people are fully aware of taking necessary precautions to keep their belongings safe but it is good to get a timely reminder.

“It is always worth double checking everything is secure and nothing of value is left in your van.”

North Wales Police are reminding owners never to leave anything on display and recommend that curtains, blinds and/or nets are left open. This may go against your instincts, but it does make sense as it will show there’s nothing worth breaking in for.

In the lounge take home anything of value, such as a TV, DVD player or games consoles and in the kitchen leave cupboards open and remove any expensive electrical items. While in bedrooms remove any valuables from cupboards. If there’s room, stand mattresses on their side. Leave the cupboards and wardrobe doors open. This will show there’s nothing of value hidden away.

Finally, ask your local Crime Prevention Officer for a ‘DON’T BOTHER’ window card. If possible place a card on each side of the caravan which will help to deter any unwanted attention. Lock and secure all windows and doors before leaving the caravan.
