SAM ROWLAND MS for North Wales, is backing a petition for immediate action after more flash flooding in the Borras Park area.
Mr Rowlands has submitted a petition signed by local residents to Wrexham County Borough Council and Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water regarding localised flash flooding at the junction between Warrenwood Road and Philips Close and on Daleside Avenue.
Mr Rowlands, who has visited the affected area along with Wrexham County Borough Councillor, Debbie Wallice said: “I was appalled at what I heard when I visited the site and speaking to local residents who have been be affected by flash floods for many years and I did raise the matter with Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water.
“However, although the cause of the flooding has been identified I understand that drains are still overflowing when there is heavy rain.
“There has been at least one incident when flash flooding saw raw sewage flood into the road and people’s homes and Cllr Wallice said Wrexham Council had to carry out a deep clean of the worst affected road.
“It simply isn’t acceptable that residents have to start a petition to get their voices heard and they should not have to worry about drains flooding every time there is a heavy downpour of rain.”
Cllr Wallice said: “Residents have shown incredible patience, but enough is enough. The repeated flooding – including raw sewage entering homes – is not just distressing, it’s totally unacceptable. I fully support the petition calling for urgent action.
“Dŵr Cymru must prioritise the necessary drainage upgrades, and Wrexham Council must continue to push for solutions and support residents however it can. People deserve to feel safe in their homes, not left fearing the next heavy rainfall.”
The petition calls on Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water to prioritise the necessary drainage upgrades as soon as possible during the 2025-2030 Asset Management Period and for Wrexham County Borough Council to make representations to Dŵr Cymru calling on them to take steps to mitigate flashing flooding in and around Warrenwood Road and Philips Close; explore what further support the council can provide to local residents; and work with the Welsh Government to access funding to finance mitigation measures.
