PLANS to develop 23 affordable homes on rural land outside of Bridgend have been submitted to the local council.
If approved, they could eventually see the creation of up to 23 affordable homes with public open space, landscaping, and access infrastructure at a site on the southern edge of Bettws.
The proposal for a plot of land at City Farm, Bettws, was handed to the local planning authority in January of 2026 by developers at the Llanmoor Development Company Ltd.
It is located around 3.5km north of Bridgend immediately to the west of Betws Road where it comprises an area of previously undeveloped agricultural land.
The site, near a residential care facility for adults, has a long planning history for approved residential developments dating all the way back to 2008.
The latest submission follows a previous application which was refused by the authority for the creation of up to 35 properties.
It says: “This revised submission focuses entirely on delivering a smaller, 100% affordable housing scheme, within the settlement boundary.
“It features a reduced development footprint with an emphasis on place-making and addressing local housing need, while promoting a more sensitive and appropriately scaled form of development.”
It adds: “The development proposals comprise a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom fully compliant WDQR units, provided in a combination of both flats and houses to meet local housing need.
“The proposed development will deliver all homes as social rented units, provided in partnership with a Registered Social Landlord (RSL).
“The partnership with an RSL also guarantees professional longterm management of the properties, supporting sustainable tenancies and community stability.”
The proposal says a new access would also be created off Betws Road into the development with an additional link for active travel into the village and beyond.
A second temporary application has also been submitted for a site compound and car parking area to facilitate the construction of the scheme.
Both plans will now be considered by Bridgend County Borough Council in the coming months.
