Local artist sees success in Maesteg Market’s pop-up unit

Councillor Huw David, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough Council and Carly Lewis, owner of Nature’s Printmaker

A LOCAL business has wrapped up a month long stay in Maesteg Market’s pop-up initiative, courtesy of the council’s Economic Development and Enterprise team.

Nature’s Printmaker, run by Carly Lewis, runs friendly art workshops for children and adults, inspired by nature and focused on wellbeing. A former secondary art teacher, she brings over a decade of experience to creative sessions that calm the mind and spark imagination.

During her stay in Unit 14, she has hosted a series of workshops demonstrating the artistic technique of gelli-printing, with a range of different subjects including nature, fruit and dinosaurs. She has hosted classes that have included children and adults, with a positive reception from residents.

Carly Lewis, founder of Nature’s Printmaker, said: “I have had the most amazing time with my stay at ‘For A Limited Time Only…?’.

“It’s been such a refreshing experience having a space to teach art to so many; every single person that’s walked through the doors has been so supportive and kind, I am truly grateful for all the positivity.

“The council’s Economic and Enterprise team have given me such massive support with this space and it has been a truly incredible journey.

“I want to give a huge thank you to everybody for the incredible support throughout this creative journey — your messages, bookings, and kind words have meant the world to me.”

Councillor Huw David, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough Council, recently visited Carly in the unit during a dinosaur themed print workshop.

He said: “Meeting Carly was so lovely and she has beautifully crafted a warm, inviting space within Maesteg Market.

“Everybody I have spoken to who has attended her workshops have had such a lovely time and seeing another business flourish in this pop-up unit is incredibly heartwarming.”

The next occupant to take over the pop-up unit will be Nude Jewels, a creative selling handmade sterling silver jeweller by a self-taught silversmith.

The Economic Development and Enterprise team are still looking for businesses who would be interested in a stay within the unit; businesses can complete this Expression of Interest form.
