PLANS to use a block of residential flats in the centre of Porthcawl as assisted living apartments have been handed in to Bridgend County Borough Council.
They were submitted to the local authority in February of 2026 for the Sea Breeze Apartments located on New Road, Porthcawl.
The plans say they would convert the existing residential flats at the property for them to be used as assisted living apartments if given the go-ahead by council bosses.
They added that other converted spaces would be used for communal rooms for residents along with a dedicated medication room with an accessible W/C, office space for staff use, and a staff training room and storage area.
The three storey building is described as being in a “highly accessible position, situated within walking distance of Porthcawl town centre and the seafront.”
It is also located close to Porthcawl’s well known Griffin Park which is popular for hosting a number of local bowls clubs and a modern children’s play area.
The plans said: “Externally, the development would retain the existing building envelope with minor alterations to openings and finishes to ensure compliance with accessibility and building regulation standards.
“The conversion will not increase the overall building footprint or result in any change to the established access or parking arrangements.”
The proposal has been submitted by ST Planning on behalf of Liberty Independent Living Limited who would operate the facility once up and running.
It will now be considered by the authority for a decision in the coming months.
It comes just months after the council released details of large-scale plans to regenerate the seafront area of Porthcawl with a new lido swimming pool, shops, green spaces and community gardens.
It could also see the development of up to 980 homes on the site of the former Coney Beach Pleasure Park which closed its gates for the last time in 2025.
This has so far led to backlash from some residents who say they want to see the area kept for more leisure based developments in the tourist area, with new housing located elsewhere.
