Parents’ charity praises work placements for specialist school students
CARDIFF AIRPORT has been recognised by a parents’ charity linked to a specialist school for its support in providing opportunities for young people with additional learning needs.
The airport has received a recognition certificate from the Parent Teacher Association of Ysgol y Deri, a specialist school in the Vale of Glamorgan, in appreciation of its commitment to supporting students and their families.
The award, presented on behalf of parents, highlights the airport’s efforts to create inclusive opportunities for pupils with additional needs.

Cardiff Airport is currently supporting three students from the school who are undertaking work placements with its Terminal Operations teams. The placements allow the pupils to experience working in a busy operational environment while developing confidence and valuable workplace skills.
Angela Hewitson, Terminal Manager at Cardiff Airport, accepted the certificate on behalf of the airport’s Accessibility and Special Assistance Team.

She said: “Receiving this recognition from the parents of Ysgol y Deri means a great deal to all of us at Cardiff Airport, particularly our Special Assistance Team, who work so hard to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported when travelling through the airport.
“We’re absolutely delighted to currently have three fantastic students from the school working with our Site Support and Executive Lounge teams. They’ve made a wonderful impression already, and it’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they gain experience of working at the airport.
“This partnership is incredibly important to us. Being able to support opportunities that make a positive difference to students and their families is something we are very proud of, and we look forward to continuing to grow our relationship.”
Chris Britten, headteacher of Ysgol y Deri, said the school community was grateful for the opportunity provided to its pupils.
“The school community is tremendously grateful to Cardiff Airport for giving our pupils an opportunity for meaningful work experience,” he said.
“The team at the airport are welcoming and enthusiastic and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them in the future.”
Cardiff Airport says it remains committed to working closely with local schools and community organisations to create inclusive opportunities and meaningful experiences for young people across the region.
