CARDIFF AIRPORT is proud to support an important safety campaign in memory of Tom Channon, from Rhoose, who sadly lost his life whilst on holiday in 2018.
Working with Tom’s parents, John and Ceri Channon, the Airport is helping to promote the ‘Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together’ campaign through a series of posters displayed throughout key footfall areas in Check-In and Departures.
On his first holiday abroad without his parents, Tom travelled to Magaluf, Spain, with friends to celebrate completing his A-levels. He tragically suffered a fatal fall while trying to make his way back to his hotel on his own.
Since their devastating loss, Tom’s parents have worked tirelessly to honour their son’s memory and help prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.
Cardiff Airport is now working alongside Mr and Mrs Channon to promote safety awareness among passengers travelling abroad, particularly young people embarking on holidays with friends for the first time.
Angela Hewitson, Terminal Manager at Cardiff Airport, said: “We are extremely proud to support Tom’s campaign, which delivers an important message about staying safe whilst travelling abroad. Through the dedication of John
and Ceri, Tom’s legacy continues to make a positive difference by helping to raise awareness among young travellers and their families.
“Posters displayed around the Airport include a QR code linking to a range of practical safety resources, developed collaboratively by Tom’s parents and his former sixth form college, St David’s Catholic College in Cardiff. The resources offer valuable guidance to help young people stay safe and look after one another whilst overseas.
“We encourage all passengers to take a moment to reflect on the campaign’s message, ‘Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together’, and to look out for one another whilst enjoying their travels.”
