PEOPLE living in and around Cardiff impacted by the infected blood scandal will be able to speak with someone face-to-face about compensation at an event being held in Wales’ capital city.
The Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) is an independent body, which pays compensation to people infected and affected by HIV, hepatitis B and C through contaminated blood or blood products.
Since being established in 2024, IBCA has contacted more than 4,400 people to start their compensation claim and paid more than £2.1 billion in compensation.
IBCA is hosting the event in central Cardiff on Tuesday, June 30,12.30-3.30pm (with time slots). This drop-in session is the latest in a series of events taking place across the UK this year, where in total more than 500 people have attended.
It is an opportunity for the infected blood community to meet members of the IBCA team in a safe and supportive place and ask questions about the compensation scheme and claims process.
Members of the IBCA team who work with people making a claim, legal and data staff will be on hand to answer queries.
An attendee to the recent Liverpool drop-in events said: “I attended the event with my wife. We were unsure what to expect. However we were greeted and treated superbly.
“We cannot fault the professionalism of the people involved. They were most helpful and informative. All our questions were answered. We were helped enormously by the staff who dealt with us.”
The event is informal and there are no long presentations or fixed agendas.
The British Red Cross will be attending to offer independent trauma support. They are there to listen if attendees feel overwhelmed or just need a quiet moment.
David Foley, Chief Executive of IBCA, said: “I look forward to meeting people at our community in-person session in Cardiff in June.
“IBCA is committed to working with the infected blood community, to understand how we can best support people who intend to claim compensation after the harm caused by infected blood.
“Community members told us that they would value speaking to us in person, as well as using our digital services. We listened to this feedback and are hosting in-person sessions across the UK.
“Since January, we have held a number of community in-person events and have received positive feedback from the hundreds of people who have attended.”
You can find out more about the event and register to attend on the IBCA website events page.
Further community drop-in events will be held across the UK during 2026. You can find more information on the IBCA website events page, or sign up to Community Updates by clicking here to stay informed.
