LANSDOWNE Primary School has marked 127 years of cherished memories at its Norfolk Street location.
Pupils, staff, and families have come together to honour the school’s rich history ahead of its relocation to a new site, less than half a mile away.
Celebrations have included a dress-up day reflecting the school’s past eras, classroom explorations of how Lansdowne has changed over time and the creation of memory boards filled with photos and stories from past and present pupils, staff and families. The school came together on Monday lunchtime for a whole-school picnic, accompanied by music through the ages.
Headteacher Michelle Jons said: “We wanted to say thank you to Norfolk Street, we’re simply turning the page to a new chapter, 127 years of Lansdowne won’t be left behind in these walls – those years will live in us and shape our future.
“We feel proud of what we have built here and look ahead with excitement, with courage and with the same Lansdowne spirit that’s carried us this far.”

The redevelopment of Lansdowne Primary School aims to address the ongoing deterioration of its current buildings, ensuring the continued safety and quality of education for all pupils.
The new school is situated in the north section of the former Fitzalan High School site, within the existing Lansdowne Primary catchment area. This modern facility features flexible classroom buildings, refurbished halls and dining areas, updated nursery and reception spaces, new office facilities, and enhanced learning resources, including state-of-the-art ICT tools.
A brand-new school logo has been launched to mark the start of the school’s new chapter. After gathering feedback through consultation, the new design has been selected to embody the vibrant, multicultural spirit of the school community.

Cllr Sarah Merry, Cardiff’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education said: “I know there will be a great sense of nostalgia from the whole Lansdowne community as they reflect on the memories, friendships and achievements that have helped shape the school for over a century.
“The school’s new home is not just a change of address but represents a renewed commitment to providing the very best education environment for pupils. Bringing modern classrooms, new facilities, and even more opportunities for learners and staff.”
