PLANS for a new 3G all-weather pitch with floodlighting and changing rooms have been approved to be built at a Cardiff school.

The proposals for the new facility at St Teilos High School in Llanedeyrn were approved at a council  planning committee held in January 2026.

It will now the see the development given the green light on 1.94 hectares of land which is part of St Teilos High School.

Once completed the facility will feature a new 3G all-weather pitch with associated changing rooms, floodlighting, and footpaths with 5m high weld mesh perimeter fencing and a spectator viewing area.

The changing room element would see a provision suitable for two teams, and additional changing room for match officials and an accessible changing room.

The plans add that the pitch would be designed to hold eight floodlighting columns with a 2m wide external footpath.

They read: “The operation of the proposed facilities will be managed in a partnership between the School and Cardiff Met University and the facilities would serve the various school sports teams, while also being available for community use.”

They also said it would meet Football Association of Wales (FAW) Tier 3 standards and would be able to accommodate up to 100 standing
spectators.

However, despite this it would not be able to host FAW Tier 3 matches as the facility does not meet the spectator and ancillary facilities specifications.

Speaking at the meeting Cllr Micheal Michael of Trowbridge said while he was supportive of the plans, the addition of a small stand was something that should have been looked at in order to meet the specifications and enable local football teams to progress through the leagues.

Cllr Sean Driscoll of Llandaff agreed though said it was still a really good scheme that would be a massive asset to the school and the local community.

Following discussions and recommendations from officers, the plans were approved unanimously by members in attendance.
