TREDEGARVILLE Church in Wales Primary School in Roath has been praised for its inclusive, respectful, and nurturing environment in a glowing new inspection report published by Estyn.
The inspection highlights the school as a beacon of equity, diversity, and community engagement. Inspectors commended the school’s commitment to anti-racism and multicultural celebration, noting that “respect, inclusivity, and fairness are at the heart of everything the school does.”
The Headteacher who has led the school since November 2021, was recognised for her “strong and caring leadership” and high expectations for both staff and pupils. The report states that the school’s vision is “well embedded and visible in all aspects of school life,” with a clear strategic direction for continuous improvement.
Key strengths identified in the report:
- Celebration of Diversity: The school’s curriculum reflects a wide range of cultures and lived experiences, supported by events such as culture cafés and carnivals.
- Pupil Well-being and Leadership: Pupils benefit from targeted emotional support programmes and are encouraged to take on leadership roles that influence school life.
- Academic Progress: Many pupils make strong progress in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, with effective teaching in the majority of classes.
- Support for Additional Needs: Pupils with ALN and English as an Additional Language (EAL) are well supported and make suitable progress.
- Governance and Financial Management: Governors provide effective challenge and support, and the school makes good use of its funding, including the Pupil Development Grant.
The report outlines two recommendations for further improvement which the school will address in its action plan; ensuring all pupils are appropriately challenged in their learning, and addressing aspects of teaching quality to ensure all pupils make strong progress.
Headteacher Victoria Scale-Constantinou said: “I am delighted that the unwavering dedication and consistent love and care that all the staff at Tredegarville Church in Wales Primary school show to our children and school community has been recognised.
“It is also positive that Estyn acknowledged our ongoing commitment to inclusion, high aspirations and anti-racism.“
Cardiff’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Sarah Merry said: “This report reflects the dedication of staff, the enthusiasm of pupils, and the support of the school’s families and community.
“Tredegarville Church in Wales Primary School should feel proud of the outcome and will be committed to building on this success and continuing to provide a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every child.”
At the time of inspection the school had 235 pupils on roll, 54.1% were eligible for free school meals, 7.4% pupils identified as having additional learning needs and 69.9% pupils had English as an additional language.
