Will Smith lights up Cardiff Castle in historic Welsh show

HOLLYWOOD icon Will Smith made history in Wales last night (Monday, Aug 25) as he brought his “Based on a True Story” world tour to Cardiff Castle, delivering one of the most spectacular live shows the venue has ever seen.

Fans travelled from every corner of the country – from Wrexham to Pembrokeshire – to witness Smith’s first major UK performance in two decades. The castle grounds were packed as thousands enjoyed a night of nostalgia, fireworks and feel-good hip hop.

A show like no other

Smith performed a setlist spanning his 30-year music career, with the crowd erupting for classics including Summertime, Miami, Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It and Men in Black. The show combined high-energy choreography, dazzling visuals, and a finale of fireworks bursting over the floodlit castle walls.

Wearing his trademark Philadelphia cap and a red varsity jacket, Smith was on electrifying form, at one point leaping down to perform among fans at the front of the crowd.

Fans across Wales celebrate

Pembrokeshire fans made their voices heard, with James from Narberth telling The Herald: “It was one of the best gigs for a long time – amazing vibes from start to finish.”

Social media lit up across Wales, with concert-goers describing the night as “unforgettable” and “pure joy.” From North to South, the buzz showed just how significant this performance was for Welsh music lovers.

Cardiff Castle: Wales’ festival stage

The concert was staged by TK Maxx Presents Depot Live, the Cardiff-based events team that has turned the castle into one of the UK’s leading live music destinations. With global stars continuing to choose Wales as a stop on their tours, last night’s event underlined Cardiff’s growing reputation as a cultural hotspot.

As Will Smith left the stage to thunderous applause and a backdrop of fireworks, fans knew they had been part of a moment of Welsh music history.
