FORMER council offices at a listed market hall could be used as a bridal shop if change of use permission is granted.
An application for change of use permission for the former Monmouth Market Hall has been submitted to Monmouthshire County Council which owns the grade II-listed building in Priory Street.
According to the application form the ground floor was last used as a council hub in 2022.
The application form shows a bridal shop could operate from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and would employ one full time and one part-time staff member.
Members of the public have until Tuesday, April 7 to comment on the application which is being considered by the council’s planning department.
The application form indicates it is likely further permission would be sought to change two windows though all boxes asking if alterations would be made to a listed building are ticked “no”.
It also stated parking is included in the rear car park, though “no” is ticked where the form asks if parking is relevant to the proposal.
In November 2024 Monmouthshire council’s cabinet was told a rental agreement is in place for the Market Hall building in Monmouth and a change of use planning application is due to be submitted.
Later that month ap planning application to use the building as an arts centre, including a cafe/bar on the ground floor, was submitted to the council’s planning department.
