A FORMER congregational chapel built more than 160 years ago could be used as a children’s nursery.

The Old Chapel, in Tywyn Square, Usk currently has permission for use as an office but a planning application is seeking approval for a day nursery.

Twyn Square Congregational Chapel was first built in 1769 and rebuilt in a gothic style in 1863.

Wiktoria Debska, of Sunnybank Road, Griffithstown, Pontypool has submitted a change of use application to Monmouthshire County Council.

Her application states conversion would only involve internal alterations with none to the outside of the building and: “The nursery would operate primarily on weekdays, with occasional weekend use of the building for classes not involving day care. There would be no evening or late-night use, and activity would be limited to drop-off and pick-up at the start and end of sessions.”

There is no on site parking and its proposed staff will use a nearby public car park and parent “drop-off and pick-up will be short-stay and managed to minimise impact on surrounding streets”.

The application seeks opening hours of 8am to 6pm on Monday to Friday and Sundays and bank holidays but from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays.

The application is being considered by the planning department.
