Independent candidates win seats following mass resignations at Caldicot Town Council

FOUR new councillors have been elected to a local council rocked by multiple resignations.

A long running dispute resulted in five councillors resigning at once from Caldicot Town Council in February.

Six vacancies were advertised and elections were required, to fill four seats, in two wards, with the other two vacancies filled when only one candidate in each ward came forward.

In the Caldicot Castle ward Carl Denys Jones topped the poll, with 195 votes, followed by Jimy Harris with 178 while Gavin King missed out having earned just 52 votes. All candidates were listed as independents.

In the West End ward Ben Barrett was backed by 243 votes with 188 supporting Alex McIntyre while Marcus Vine missed out with 114 votes and all candidates were listed as independents.

The elections were held on Thursday, May 14.
