THE MCCARTHY & Stone Foundation, an independent charity that provides grants to non-profit organisations improving the lives of people later in life, has awarded £7,500 in funding to a local Neath Port Talbot charity.
This donation will support those living with dementia and their carers, as well as enabling the charity to continue its valuable work in the community.
The funding has been distributed through the Foundation’s annual Dementia Grant Programme, which provides grants to grassroots organisations delivering vital local dementia support services.
This programme is specifically designed to strengthen community-based support and ensure smaller organisations can continue delivering essential services to those affected by dementia.
Me, Myself & I NPT is a charity helping people living with dementia, carers, and older adults stay connected, active, and supported. It delivers dementia Day Break sessions, friendship groups, and wellbeing activities that reduce isolation and strengthen local community ties. In 2024 alone, the charity supported 75 people living with dementia and 79 carers, providing vital, community-based support that improves confidence and helps people remain independent for longer.
This donation will assist the charity’s Dementia Friendship and Care Partner Support Programme. The programme will provide weekly, accessible dementia-friendly social sessions and support opportunities for people aged 65+ alongside their carers.
Stuart Williams, Business Development Manager at Me, Myself & I NPT, commented: “We are incredibly grateful to receive this funding from the McCarthy & Stone Foundation. This grant will make a real difference to people living with dementia and their care partners we support every week, helping us to continue providing vital services, encourage meaningful social connections and much-needed reassurance for families facing challenging circumstances.”
Andrew Burrett, Trustee at the McCarthy & Stone Foundation, said: “Small charities and community groups play an essential role in supporting people living with dementia and the families and carers around them. We know unrestricted funding is particularly valuable, as it enables them to respond flexibly to the needs of the people they support. Through our Dementia Grant Programme, we are proud to help these organisations continue providing compassionate, life-changing services within their local communities.”
