PLAID CYMRU has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local businesses and revitalising high streets across the new Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd Senedd constituency, with lead candidate Sioned Williams highlighting the party’s record of campaigning for local traders and markets.
Plaid Cymru says it wants to see thriving town centres “from Neath to Builth, from Pontardawe to Presteigne, and from Llansamlet to Llandrindod Wells”, ensuring that independent businesses can grow and continue to play a vital role in local communities.
The party points to its campaigning work both in the Senedd and in local councils to secure better support for local businesses. Sioned Williams has previously led successful efforts to secure support for traders at Neath Indoor Market.
Plaid Cymru says its economic plan for town centres, endorsed by experts, would help create vibrant high streets by supporting independent retailers, leisure venues and hospitality businesses.
Under the proposals, a Plaid Cymru Government would reform business rates for independent businesses in retail, leisure and hospitality, helping them remain competitive and encouraging greater investment in town centres.
Sioned Williams, Plaid Cymru’s lead candidate in Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd, said: “Local businesses are the backbone of our communities. They create jobs, bring life to our town centres and keep wealth circulating locally.
“But too many of our high streets have been neglected for years. Plaid Cymru is determined to change that by giving independent businesses the support they need to thrive.
“From Neath Indoor Market to our key towns across South Powys, we want to see vibrant town centres where local businesses can succeed and communities can prosper.
“By reforming rates for independent businesses in retail, leisure and hospitality, a Plaid Cymru Government would help ensure our town centres are lively, welcoming places once again.”
Plaid Cymru says its approach reflects its wider commitment to building a fairer economy that supports local enterprise and strengthens communities across Wales.
