COUNCIL planners in Newport have approved a plan to develop five new flats for health workers near the city’s Royal Gwent Hospital.

The property at 13 Clytha Square was originally a house but later served as offices for the health board.

The proposals to revert the building back into residential use will create five self-contained flats – four of which will be one-bedroom, while the fifth flat on the top floor will have two bedrooms.

When the plans were first put forward to Newport City Council, planning agents were keen to point out the new homes “are not HMO (house in multiple occupation) units and the target clients are the professionals serving within the NHS adjacent to the site”.
