GLAMPING pods are set to be installed on farmland in the Cynon Valley after getting planning approval.
The application for Gwrhyd Farm in Abernant Road, Llwydcoed involves six glamping units and was approved by Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT)’s planning committee on Thursday, October 2.
The plans also include bike storage, recycling/waste facilities, a parking area with eight spaces and electric vehicle charging points, a turning area, footpaths, and a water treatment plant for on-site drainage.
There were three letters of objection the plans raising concerns about traffic, highway safety, and rights of way. They also raised concerns about the impact on ecology including the destruction of habitats.
The objectors also said it would be detrimental to neighbouring properties and mentioned the cumulative noise, light, and smell.
They also mentioned the impact on the character of the area which is of a rural, pastoral nature and said the development would deprive residents of this idyllic farmland location.
And the objectors mentioned drainage, raising concerns about the impact of the development on the fresh water supply, foul water, or drainage with the potential for saturation to properties of the development and making Nant Gwyn woodland unsustainable and changing its ecology.
In recommending approval planning officers said: “The proposal represents a tourism/leisure use that is compatible with the rural setting of the site.
“Furthermore the siting, scale, and appearance of the proposed glamping pods are considered acceptable and it is not considered that they would have an adverse impact upon the character and appearance of the site and surrounding area or upon the amenity and privacy of neighbouring residential properties.
“Furthermore the proposal includes improvements to existing private shared access/driveway, a turning facility within the site to enable vehicles to access and egress the site in a forward gear, and an acceptable level of off-street car parking and the proposal would therefore not have an adverse impact on highway safety in the vicinity of the site.”
