A FORMER warehouse in Llantrisant Business Park is being transformed into Unbound Padel, a new indoor padel club. Set to open its doors in late April. Unbound will bring high-spec courts, a welcoming café, and somewhere people in South Wales can genuinely call their own.
Padel is the fastest-growing sport on the planet. Played on a compact, glass-enclosed court where the walls are part of the game, it’s more social than tennis, quicker to pick up, and once you’ve played it, surprisingly hard to put down. The UK is in the middle of a padel boom, and Unbound is South Wales’ answer to it.
The club will feature four courts in total: three panoramic double courts and one single court, the first of its kind in Wales. The venue boasts one of the highest indoor ceilings of any padel club in the UK at 14.3 metres, and pioneering low-glare halo lighting, also a first in Wales. Every detail has been designed with care, from the ground up, to create a venue where the game can truly breathe.
Planning permission was granted last November following a proposal to RCT Council to transform the vacant warehouse, empty for nearly two years, into a purpose-built sports facility. Alongside the courts, the venue will offer changing rooms and showers, a café bar, and a pro shop.
Adrian Swinbourne, Founder of Unbound, said: “We’re based in the area and wanted to create a padel club the community would be proud of. Unbound is more than a padel club.
“It’s a welcoming place where anyone can show up and play, whether they’re new to the game or have been playing for years. We can’t wait to open our doors.”
Matthew Rutland, National Development Manager at Tennis Wales, affiliated with the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), said: “We are excited for Unbound to bring padel to Llantrisant and surrounding communities.
“Their committed focus on creating and growing an inclusive, accessible and welcoming place to play will be a welcome addition to South Wales as the sport continues to grow.”
Unbound will be open seven days a week, from 6am to 11pm, with court sessions available in 60 or 90 minute slots. Recruitment is currently underway for five members of staff ahead of the opening. Doors will open late April. The game starts now.
