Less than 300 general entry spots remain for popular seaside race returning in May 2026

RUNNERS are being urged to act fast as entries for the Barry Island 10K 2026 are close to selling out, with fewer than 300 general places remaining.

Following record registration numbers for the 2025 event, organisers say next year’s race is expected to be even bigger, attracting thousands to the popular seaside town.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 17, and offers participants a scenic route through Barry Island – famously known as the setting for the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey.

The course will take runners past some of the area’s best-known landmarks, including Whitmore Bay, the Knap, Romilly Park and Watch House Bay, with an event village located on the promenade near the Barry Island Pleasure Park. Organisers say there will be plenty of activities for both runners and spectators before and after the race.

This year’s event will also be part of a wider weekend of celebrations, as the Barry Island 10K has teamed up with Gŵyl Fach y Fro, bringing Welsh language, music, arts and culture events to the area across both Saturday and Sunday.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive of organisers Run 4 Wales, said: “It’s great to see that the Barry Island 10K is as popular as ever, with entries into this year’s race close to selling out.

“If you’re thinking of taking part, don’t leave it too late. We’d hate for anyone to miss out on what promises to be another brilliant day down on the seafront, and with our partnership with Gŵyl Fach y Fro, make sure to bring your friends and family along for a fun filled weekend of music and running.”

While general places are limited, entries are still available through the event’s lead charity partner Cancer Research Wales. Charity runners can secure a place for £10 by pledging to raise £120, supporting vital work to improve outcomes for future cancer patients in Wales.
