Nationwide volunteers transform garden at key Barry service

A TEAM of volunteers from Nationwide has rolled up their sleeves to support children and young people at Action for Children’s Ty Robin short breaks service in Barry, spending a day helping to refresh and improve the centre’s facilities.

The group dedicated their time to enhancing the outdoor space, preparing new planters and painting fences to create a brighter, more welcoming garden for the children who use the service. Inside the building, the team also got involved in painting, helping to freshen up the environment for families and staff.  Volunteers also kindly presented Ty Robin with a £50 Dunelm gift card that allowed staff to put some finishing touches to the main room.

Ty Robin provides vital short breaks for disabled children and young people, offering opportunities for fun, friendship and development in a safe and supportive setting. The improvements made by the Nationwide volunteers will help ensure the space remains engaging and enjoyable for all who attend.

Since 2024 Nationwide Fairer Futures has funded the Action for Children programmes Family Fund and Family Clubs. These programmes ensure families have the essentials to live, the opportunities to enrich their lives and the support network they need.

Laura Mason, Registered Manager at Ty Robin, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Nationwide team for giving their time and energy to support Ty Robin.

“The transformation they’ve made to both our garden and indoor spaces will make a real difference to the children and families we support.

“Their enthusiasm, generosity and commitment have been fantastic, and it’s been a pleasure to have them with us.”
