Vale Council roadblocks Pendoylan HGV changes

ANDREW RT DAVIES has slammed the Labour Vale of Glamorgan Council after they refused to take action over HGVs causing tailbacks by using Pendolyan Lane running from the A48 to J34, M4.

Mr Davies says he has been inundated with concerns from constituents, who have complained that HGVs using the narrow roads connecting both villages cause frequent tailbacks.

A lack of passing places means that queues form quickly, with the roads getting clogged and jammed.

Writing to the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, Davies relayed a number of suggestions to rectify the issue, including stronger weight restrictions and enforcement, widening passing places and signage to indicate that the routes are not suitable for HGVs.

In a response, Councillor Mark Wilson said: “Having considered your concerns, as well as taking into account the signing already in place, as well as the absence of road traffic collisions, I regret that I am unable to recommend any further measures from the traffic management budget at this present time.”

Andrew RT Davies MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central and former Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said: “I’m sorry to say this is a theme developing with the Labour Vale Council.

“Just like their decision to develop an aqua park at Cosmeston, the Council are completely ignoring the reasonable concerns of their residents.

“Vale communities shouldered an eye-watering tax rise in April, and they’re sick of having their concerns ignored.

“We have put forward sensible, reasonable solutions to solve an issue that has been identified in our county, but we are met with a roadblock.

“It’s tough to stomach when hardworking, community-minded residents are knocked back by the Council, when the role of the Council should be to deliver services and make life easier, rather than acting as a barrier to positive change in the Vale.

“If residents would like to share their views with me, please do not hesitate to get in touch.”
